With many gyms closed for what seems like an eternity, some of us have fallen off of our daily workout routines. Let’s be real, doing pushups and sit-ups every day can only get you so far before until you become tired of the same routine. We can enjoy summer and take advantage of the outdoors to stay in shape. Here is a list of five things you can do to stay active and fit during the pandemic.

Hiking

A hike is a very good way to get a good workout in while the gyms are closed. You can make a hike as challenging as you’d like, you can choose to walk it, or to run it. It all depends on how extreme of a workout you want to put in. Not to mention that you’ll feel the results of the hike immediately after completing it to let you know that your workout was a success.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is a great alternative to going on a hike. It keeps you moving at all times, and it gets to be a very good workout while climbing a hill on the bike. Not to mention the awesome scenery you get from the trails, since most trails are elevated with a great view. The best part of mountain biking is the ride down from the hill, knowing that you completed the climb makes the burn in your legs worth it.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is one of the best full body workouts one can do outdoors. It requires a lot of coordination in the body, and requires you to use all of the muscles in the body. If you want to feel a workout for several days after your workout, rock climbing is the way to go.

Paddle Boarding

If you are a fan of the water, and want to have a peaceful workout, paddle boarding may just be right for you. Paddle boarding engages almost all of your upper body, as well as your core and works on your stability. Paddle boarding is a great way of getting your exercise in, as well as a way to explore around a lake or a harbor. Some even like to paddle board on the beach.

Swimming

If you have access to a pool, you should utilize it as much as possible. Swimming has been known to be one of the best exercises for getting fit or staying in shape. Not only is it a great exercise, but who doesn’t want to take a dip in the pool with the summer approaching.

Getting your exercise doesn’t mean having to lift weights, or going on a run. There are many great alternatives out there as highlighted above. Go out, have fun, and explore the outdoors as much as possible all while getting your exercise done.
