We all know that accidents happen inside the house, and sometimes result in blood spillage all over a brand-new carpet. Do not worry, if you use the correct cleaning methods and products to get the stains out of your carpet, your carpet will look good as new in no time. It is important to act fast to get blood stains out when the carpet is wet, because it may be harder to get them out when the blood is dried. This is because the carpet fibers may absorb and hold onto the blood as time passes.

Here are some of the best ways to get blood stains out of your carpet:

Method 1:

Step 1: If your carpet is made of synthetic fiber such as nylon or acrylic, you want to first soak the blood stain in cool water for around 30 minutes to an hour. Doing so will break up the blood particles and make the area easier to clean.

Step 2: Mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia with a cup of water and pour it on the stain. After waiting 5 minutes, use a towel or a new sponge to blot (not scrub) out the stain until the spot is gone.

Step 3: If the carpet can be moved, turn the carpet to the other side and blot out the stain on that side as well.

Step 4: After a few days, you can use a vacuum to go over the spot in order to remove any leftover blood particles in the area.

Method 2:

Another eco-friendlier way to take out the stain other than ammonia is by using hydrogen peroxide, dish detergent, wet vacuum, enzymatic cleaners, or a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. According to Google ,enzymatic cleaners are any cleaning products that use enzymes in their formulas to help break down stains . OxiClean is an example of an enzymatic cleaner, but make sure not to use this product on wool-based carpets because it can ruin the carpet.

Step 1: Take 2 cups of warm water, 2 cups of white vinegar, and 3 tablespoons of baking soda and mix them into a spray bottle.

Step 2: Spray the mixture onto the carpet and let the mixture blend into the carpet fibers.

Step 3: Blot out the carpet until the stain is gone with a wet and clean towel.

Alternatively, use one of the above household cleaning products mentioned and try to blot out the blood stain.

Method 3:

If your blood stain lands on a wool carpet, do not use this method, because wool needs more special care and needs Woolmark approved detergents such as Woolite.

Step 1: For a wool carpet blood stain, blot the area with a towel such as a very absorbent microfiber towel.

Step 2: Pour hydrogen peroxide on the stain and blot out the area with a towel and rinse with cold water.

Step 3: If the stain is still visible, use a Woolmark approved detergent to pour onto the spot and dab out the rest of the blood with a towel or a toothbrush until it is gone.

Method 4:

Step 1: If your blood is dried and the stain is days old, use a mixture of dishwashing detergent and 2 cups of water to mix into a bowl.

Step 2: Grab a towel and dip it into the bowl to blot out the blood stain repeatedly until it is gone. Feel free to repeat steps 1 and 2 to make sure the blood stain is removed completely, since the stain will be more tough to take out if it is dried.

** Note that if the mixture does not take out the blood completely, the best way is to use ammonia and warm water with a sponge to blot the area.
